Longer Learning Times (LLT)

WEGC seeks to move away from the silo'd, prescriptive model of education, toward a more 'wrap around' meaningful experience for the student.  To these ends we have adopted a 100-minute lesson structure for our timetable, which affords and encourages students more opportunities to work independently, spend more time in deeper thinking activities and reflection and a more coherent learning experience in each lesson.

The Hub Project

This is an initiative aimed to helping teacher's to collaborate around a particular group of students, instead of being organised by learning area.  The goals of this project are many;

  • we seek to practice collaboration for ourselves, so as to be able to better help our students work in collaborative ways

  • by focusing on the student's, and working specifically with the other teachers who work with them, we hope to build a much more cohesive and comprehensive understanding of the student's pastroal and learning needs

  • create thinking space for teachers to consider deeper, philosophical ideas around the meaning and purpose of education, the role of the teacher, and the direction, goals and aspirations of teachers themse

  • Share strategies, learning models and skills across several subjects to increase tuition time, and help the students gain a better understanding of each discipline by being able to make connections, and see similarities and contrasts between their various subjects.
